📍 Kakadu National Park NT 0822
Kakadu National Park — about 2.5 hours from Darwin — is one of Australia's most extraordinary places and a UNESCO World Heritage Area. It encompasses over 19,000 sq km of Top End wilderness, ancient Aboriginal rock art sites (some over 20,000 years old), spectacular waterfalls like Gunlom and Jim Jim Falls, saltwater crocodile-filled floodplains, and remarkable biodiversity. The dry season (May–October) is the best and safest time to visit: roads are accessible, waterholes are swimmable, and wildlife gathers at waterholes. Wet season (November–April) roads may be closed and falls inaccessible. A guided tour from Darwin is recommended for families. Full-day commitment — start early.
