One of Canberra's best free outdoor escapes, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the Brindabella foothills offers excellent wildlife walks where you're almost guaranteed to spot kangaroos, wallabies, emus, koalas and platypus (in the evening). Free entry to the reserve with paid sanctuary access. Multiple walk grades — the Sanctuary loop is easy and great for young kids. The Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre has excellent wildlife interpretation. 40 minutes from Canberra's CBD.
