📍 Gilruth Ave, The Gardens NT 0820
Darwin's Botanic Gardens are a lush, free oasis in the heart of the city. Established in 1886, the 42-hectare gardens showcase tropical plants from across the world alongside an impressive collection of NT native species. Highlights include a rainforest gully, Aboriginal plant garden with guided information on traditional uses, a dedicated children's garden, and plenty of shady lawns for picnicking. The gardens are peaceful in the dry season (May–September) with warm sunny days — ideal for family walks. Note: the wet season (November–March) brings dramatic storms and high humidity but the gardens are still beautiful. Free entry, open daily from dawn to dusk.
